Apr. 3rd, 2012 12:02 pm"Today wasn't a combat engagement, but I thought I should record what happened anyway. Not just for Knight-Captain Colvin, but for- for anybody, further down the line. For Elder Lyons, definitely. Maybe even for the High Elders in California, if they ever speak to us again."
"Today was supposed to be a day working at the robot factory. The Protectrons are going to help me with a site survey so we can work out where to place the wind generators. They've been really useful around Megaton, with the paper works for Moira and with gathering up scrap to use or sell in Springvale and all. People are really starting to warm up to the idea of having them around to do work, not just guard the front gates. They know I'm in and out of the old factory a lot, getting stuff done for the Brotherhood. Some of them've even been joking about buying robots of their own from us someday. I don't think they ever used to do that before. Between the Brotherhood water supply making such a difference in everybody's health here, and the robots doing the work of twenty or thirty people, people in Megaton've really started to like the Brotherhood. "
"Even more than Three Dog, some of them. Two of the people from the Megaton common house- not everybody in Megaton has their own separate house, there's only so much space and you kind of have to earn the right to occupy your own dwelling- two of the people from the common house came to me today. Kim Simmons and Chris Mann- you won't know them- they're a couple of years older than me. They work for Walter, up at the water treatment plant. They said that ever since the Brotherhood aqua pura started coming into Megaton, the treatment plant's been easier to take care of- there's time for them to make repairs and do maintenance, instead of having to have it run at full capacity all the time just to keep the town alive. They've been able to upgrade some of the plant's systems, too, so that it works more efficiently and has better output. Nothing like Project Purity, of course, but it's still more water, and better water, than the town had access to before- because the Brotherhood water made it easier for them to fix it. And they said they were really grateful, and that's when they asked me to perform their wedding."
"No, seriously. They actually said that. They said they'd been trying to save up enough bottlecaps to establish a household and rent a room for themselves from Billy Creel instead of having to live with all the other common house families in one space, and they've finally been able to do that. And they wanted to actually get married, instead of just moving in together and declaring they were married, which I guess is common up here even if it's a little weird. And they aren't members of the Church of Atom or the Fellowship of Eternal Light, so Confessor Cromwell and Mother Curie are right out, and as much as they like Sheriff Simms they said they'd rather go to me. They'd seen all the religious books I'd been getting from Moira's print works and they'd asked her about that, and when they found out I was a Brotherhood chaplain-"
"Yes, I know, I'm not yet. Not until Knight-Captain Colvin and Elder Lyons say I am. But that's what Moira told them I was, and they figured that was good enough, and that since the Brotherhood made such a difference in their lives they wanted our official recognition. So they asked me to do it, a week from now."
"I'm pretty sure the Outcasts would spit nails if they found out. They're not happy at all- I see them hanging around in the distance every time I go to work at the RobCo factory. At least that's tech retrieval, to their way of thinking. I'm pretty sure that's why they haven't shot at me yet. They'd never be able to handle the idea of the Brotherhood getting so involved with a single local community as to bother to conduct somebody's wedding for them. The High Elders in California would have a collective aneurysm if they knew, I'm sure."
"But… you know, if they have a problem with this, they can come and argue with Elder Lyons themselves."
