Murder Pass
Nov. 7th, 2010 01:55 am"Ellen," murmured Star Paladin Cross, her helmet-muffled voice barely audible over the clinking of her armor, "you're shaking."
( if you pass through raging waters in the sea you shall not drown )
"I'm sorry, Cross," Ellen answered, struggling to keep her own voice even. "I can't help it."
( if you walk amid the burning flames you shall not be harmed )
Mayor Maccready had taken them to Murder Pass and left as fast as his legs would take him. Ellen couldn't blame him. Ellen envied him. They'd climb over the rock and they'd shout "THERE YOU ARE!" and they'd find her, her back pressed against the rock, and power armor or no they'd-
( be not afraid )
"I can do this." It felt like a lie. She readied her plasma rifle anyway. "Let's go."

Cross nodded, and stepped out from her own cover. "For Elder Lyons!" she called out, her Gatling laser's searing red beams punctuating her words. "For the Brotherhood!"

A battle cry would have been nice, and might have helped, but Ellen couldn't have formed words if her life depended on it. She fixed her mind on Chief Harkness telling her that the plasma rifle he was giving her had never failed him yet. I hope I can say as much when all of this is over, she thought weakly, and poked her head just far out of the shelter of the rock to see what lay ahead of her, and opened fire.
( and I will give you rest )
She was still shaking. But it would have to do.
