The door opens from Milliways onto the tumbletown ruins of what used to be an industrial area on the fringes of Arlington. The temperature is summertime-warm, the air dry; the last rains to pass through here are long since gone. Overhead, a scavenger bird or two circles, visible only to people who know what they're looking for. A breeze listlessly stirs the air, kicking up brief dust-devils along the shattered ruin of the local roads. Beyond that, the place is quiet in the way that only emptiness can bring.
"This is where I came in," Ellen says over her shoulder. "Like I mentioned the other day, it's about a day's travel to the Fort Bannister region from here. There's still some pre-war asphalt laid down here but pretty soon it all gives way to open sand and scrub. The nearest radiation source is a hundred yards northeast of here, and we're not going in that direction, so unless my Geiger counter goes off without warning we should be all right."

Date: 2010-03-18 01:35 am (UTC)"Before we talk about ideas, everyone needs to know the details of the operation," says John. "The main objective is to remove Talon Company as a possible threat, and that splits into sub-objectives. Talon Company's leader, Commander Jabsco, has a vendetta against Ellen. He'll need to be eliminated. Additionally, there is a cache of equipment standing as bounty against Ellen, and that needs to be removed--preferably captured."
The Spartan nods to the woman in power armor. "Ellen needs munitions for an upcoming engagement, so if possible, we will be capturing this cache, along with any additional ammunition stocks on base. We're going to be transporting this equipment by pack animal. That means we will be in a vulnerable position while we move in, load up, and withdraw. The site will need to be secured for that to be an option."
"The complex is chiefly underground, but the open structures up top are likely employed by a guard force. I expect to see regular patrols locking down the surrounding area. Sentries will be located at high, commanding positions. It's possible that they're utilizing minefields, razor wire, or makeshift barricades to plug up any gaps they don't have a good cover on. This is an estimate of what we'll see, if our recon doesn't turn up anything different."
"I'm proposing we split into two teams, Alpha team running interference and Delta team working infiltration. At night, Alpha will engage a hostile patrol in a light skirmish, mid way through Talon's perimeter. Their objective isn't to cause casualties, it's to draw out a response. Alpha team has to prove intolerable without posing a significant threat to Talon Company. If done right, this will provoke the main guard and any outlying patrols to join the engagement. If done wrong, the entire base will be alerted and we won't have any choice but to pull out. Alpha will use ambushes, pre-prepared fallback positions and traps to accomplish their goal."
"Delta team will move in under the cover of darkness once Alpha draws the guard away. The infiltration team will need to eliminate any remaining sentries left topside at the base and go in fast and quiet. Once inside, Delta will take out Jabsco and begin moving the munitions out. They will engage targets of opportunity such as the complex's water supply, power generator, and sleeping tangos, as they become open. Their mission relies on stealth, as any alert will make the Talons get out of bed, and they won't be able to handle those numbers. Ellen doesn't want a massacre, but I still recommend eliminating as many tangos as possible. It's not likely we can remove the munitions and make distance without being compromised otherwise."
"If you have any ideas, now's the time."

Date: 2010-03-18 01:50 am (UTC)Ellen and Annabelle are likely to recognize the metal disks that he's handing out to the other members of this group from the last encounter. The Master Chief's probably picking up a signal from them as well, something of a miniature 'friendly party' marker.

Date: 2010-03-18 01:55 am (UTC)If the Moon Shadow was going to be coming with the Chief, he'd need some idea of why the boy was with them. Certainly when John was that age, he was well trained, but he wasn't sure what kind of training or experience his team counterpart could have. "Moon Shadow, can you give me a brief overview of your capabilities?" he asks.

"And I guess we're about set to roll out..."
[OOC: Since we've got a mess o' time zones to span here, we'll be splitting Team Alpha and Team Delta into two separate subthreads. I'll be more than happy to NPC in both as needed.]
