Ben Grimm and Fawkes found one entrance into the tunnels under Olney. Felix found another. Ellen was right; someone has been here recently. Deathclaws do not, after all, set up tip-proof electric lanterns and battered, ancient generators to light the way. (If they do, everyone is in a great deal more trouble than previously thought.)

"Well," Ellen says, glancing up and down the length of the tunnel section people are standing in, "it looks like we'll have company wherever we're going, aside from the kind with claws. We could use a scout, I think, as well as local defense. I've got a Stealth Boy if needed..."

The hammer Ben likes...a lot. He can see why that Thor guy uses one now. He's just getting ready for another swing when a group of panicked Enclave hit him with their flamethrowers and the Mamma Claw stumbles from She-hulk's blow. He watches her rant at the group that's pestering her and nearly missed the Mamma Claw righting herself.

He does though and spins with his signature home run swing aimed at her knee. It is kind of hard to see through the flames and smoke which seem to stick to him but he's having no other troubles.

Oh, yes, the super sledge is useful. It's very useful. Right now, though, Fawkes likes his other weapon more. There's really just something about bellowing "Game's OVER, lizard!" and throwing a fully automatic heavy combat laser weapon into its highest setting that does his big green heart good.

Granted, he was aiming for the Mamma Claw's head and she's having some trouble standing straight thanks to Ben's marvelous work on her bleeding-and-worse knee, so the lasers are ripping into her neck and the wall behind her as much as her head, but he can correct for that while he's busy cackling madly.

Ben turns his back on the sound and fury of Fawkes' attack with a wry grin to give the group of Enclave his full attention. Even now they continue to try and turn into a crispy critter but to no affect.

"Not that I don't appreciate a warm welcome," he says raising the hammer above his head, "but it's clobberin' time!" Yeah he knows it's a corny line but everyone else is giving them and he always liked that line when his old coach would use it. As for the hammer, it comes down to hit the ground before the armored men with all of his mass and considerable strength.

Was that an earthquake?

It sure felt like an earthquake, but Jen knows better. Jen then takes a moment to gape at Fawkes - he's normally so calm and unruffled, deliberate and...well, you can be deliberately berserker.

"Go get her, sweetie!" she shouts at Fawkes.

Now she's going after the third Enclave soldier that was harrying her with flame - what had Ellen called them? He's - or she - is backing away from her at this point, flame fwoooshing to the point that she's entirely engulfed.

It does no good.

"Don't you dare try and run," she warns, then she stands before him, hair literally blowing (attractively) in the mass of flame the weapon puts out. She snatches the flamethrower, breaks it in two, and throws the pieces to the far corner of the chamber. Then she punches him in the gut, hitting him hard enough to penetrate his armor and a few layers of subcutaneous tissue underneath. That done, she settles for a hard right hook such that he's unconscious.

"Fawkes! Ben! Status update! How're you two doing? I'm going after those two stragglers that are giving me grief."

"I'm good," Ben calls out as he charges a couple of armored guy who really are wishing they were some where else. It's understandable really when you have a flaming monster who refuses to fall down giving you a bear hug. Steel groans as two suits begin to nearly fuse together. "Just giving a couple of lessons in ettiquette and what happens when you mess with science. You guys learning?"

"BURN! BURN AND FALL TO ASHES!!"

... Fawkes'll be back with y'all in a little bit. He's kinda caught up in the moment just now. Happens, sometimes. Fortunately it's putting a serious dent in the Mamma Claw's capabilities- we say fortunately because she's starting to wheel about on her good leg and strike furiously at anything moving within her rapidly more limited field of vision. There's concrete flying everywhere now, along with the smoke and the flames.

Normally Ben would hesitate before doing his next move, he'd wonder if these guys had families or pets or something. But these guys are part of the group that turned Fawkes into who he is without his consent and that just does not sit right, no, not at all.

Ben drops the Hammer of Righteous Whoopass (as he is calling it now)and bends to pick up the two Enclave soldiers whose armor is now bent and twisted together and throws them at the Mamma Deathclaw's chest. He'd go for the head but he wants to make sure he hits. "Hey Mamma, chow time!"

Shulkie is hit with some of that concrete shrapnel, and goodness yes it's harder and harder to see clearly thanks to a smoking Ben and all the flamethrowers.

"Fawkes, go for her eyes! Blind her if you can!" she shouts in his direction as she pelts towards one of her personal five-man...no, make that two-man retinue of Enclave soldiers. Holy bejeebus, but Mama Deathclaw is big.

She doesn't slow down when she reaches her target - she just shoves him hard after grabbing his flamethrower (because she's still worried about stray firepower hitting Fawkes). He goes over backwards, skidding back fast on the smooth floor. She pounces on him when he comes to a stop, picks him up by one leg, swings him in an arc and slams him into the floor with a strength calculated to keep him unconscious for quite some time, not to mention possible broken legs or arms.

"Ben, make sure none of that fire gets near Fawkes!"

Her Enclave soldier stops moving. One more to go, then she can go assist Ben.

"Gotcha doll!" Ben calls out and looks around for a plan of attack and hey remember that wall that was on the verge of collapsing anyway? What could be a better fire shield?

He does punch a view hole before bending to grip a good chuck and twists and heaves before turning towards the Enclave being sure to keep himself between them and Fawkes. "How'd mama like her snack?"

Fawkes pulls himself together enough to take aim at the Deathclaw's eyes. Something hit him somewhere along the way- his arm's bleeding- but he doesn't seem to have noticed. "She's feeling it," he rumbles in return. "It will do. It will do well indeed."

The last member of Shulkie's personal retinue, having watched the fate of his fellows, is currently moving at a backwards jog away from her, seemingly oblivious to trip hazards and debris. He's not even trying with his flamethrower.

"Enough from you ridiculously intolerant people. You've angered the She-Hulk and now you have me talking in the third person."

She catches him by grabbing that accursed weapon of his, bending the nozzle into a pretzel shape - and he's trying to run away again. She leaps so that she lands in front of him. The impact knocks him down, but she rights him by pulling on his arms until he's standing in front of her. Then she slams both fists together with his head in the middle and a BWONG!! rings out in the chamber.

He crumples to the ground.

"Be good and stay there. God have mercy on your concussed soul, jerk."

Then Jen looks around her - where is she needed most? Fawkes seems safe, Ben looks like he's still on fire (a sight she won't soon forget) but seems to enjoy it, so she'll go harass Mama Lizard Queen some more.

The Gatling laser Fawkes carries is a heavy, bulky weapon that gives the impression of brute force and nothing but. This is not entirely the case. A standard minigun would give the same impression and in that case it would be right, but that's because a minigun's barrels spin up and continue spinning as they spit out their ammo. The Gatling, however, has three fixed barrels. The lasers just fire from each barrel in rapid succession, on full automatic mode. So long as the wielder holds the weapon still, they are guaranteed a hit in the same spot from each barrel, each time.

Translation: Mama Deathclaw's had one eyeball vaporized and the other's about to go. Also, Fawkes might just be cackling right now. It's a little hard to say.

As for Ben, he's doing a really good job of keeping Enclave fire off Fawkes and nearly redirecting it back at them a few times. Of course they aren't too happy with this and decide to do something about it. Taking careful aim, two of them blast ben in the face through this nice window he made for himself in the wall. Lucky Ben has Enclave made of sterner stuff than She-Hulk's.

Unfortunately for them this doesn't really do much but piss him off even more. He stops, looks through the window at them and says, "Ouch," before smacking them with the wall...a few times...over and over until the wall is in little pieces and power armor is bent and dented beyond use. And just to be sure he walks over anything that looks like a gun or flamethrower.

Catching his breath he turns to see what's left of the Mama Deathclaw and if Fawkes or She-Hulk need his help.

The deathclaw's roaring thunderously now, striking out literally blindly at anything and anyone within range. "Finish her!" Fawkes yells, though whether anyone can hear him over that din is debatable. "Finish her now!"

"10-4, Fawkes. Ben, this might be a two-person job," Jen shouts, now that they have a little room to breathe. Enclave bodies (dead? Dying? Playing possum? Just unconscious? Who knows?) are scattered everywhere - she has to carefully run back towards Mama Deathclaw to avoid tripping.

Mama Deathclaw is fast, in pain, blind, loud, and deranged. Jen wonders briefly if she can pinpoint by smell, but it doesn't matter because she's going in for the kill. She darts back and forth, trying to grab Mama's tail, which might be a comical sight were the situation less antagonistic and dangerous. She's got those spikes on her tail and Jen takes a scraping across her abdomen after a particularly vicious tail lash, but pay dirt! Jen's got hold of the tail with one arm and snaps off the spikes with the other, all while being lashed back and forth.

"Yeeeeehaaaaa! Ride 'em cowgirl!"

She has to use both arms to get purchase on the tail, but get purchase she does, and lifts Mama by her tail, lifting and swinging in a huge arc, slamming her into the floor once, twice, three, four times - just enough to hopefully stun her temporarily into stillness. There's an impact crater underneath Mama Deathclaw when Jen is done. Mama's bones aren't liking this treatment either judging by the cracking noise emanating from her legs and arms.

It works to briefly still her. "Ben, we're going to have to break her neck to put her out of her misery, I think. Jump up here with me and help me wrench before she gets up unless you have a better idea! Either that or bludgeon her to death!"

"I hear you," Ben calls and after a quick look, leaps to Mama's head. With a quick prayer that she's actually out, he reaches one hand over the top of her head and the other under and lifts enough to give her spine enough clearance for a quick snap. "Can you jump up or thrust down on her neck?"

Who knew that summer on the farm would prove so helpful.

No sooner said than done.

"Sooooooey!" Jen shouts, then leaps onto Mama's neck.

"One big jump up and down should do it," she gauges.

Up she goes, a vertical straight ascent as if on a trampoline, and downs she comes, landing where she started.

A crisp SNAP! can be heard.

Mama Deathclaw's body goes limp.

Ben lets the now limp head slide from his grasp and can't help feel a bit of empathy for the monstrous beast; after all, she was just hunting not turning people into monsters. He attempts to close her eyes, to give her some measure of respect, but unlike the movies it's not an easy thing to do.

"Sure thing" he says, patting at his flames which seem to finally be dimming.

Ben's right, and Jen hates to see an animal that was just fighting for survival die. If only there had been another way; Jen would have settled for some kind of restraint that they could leave her in until the mission was safely over and everyone accounted for.

"It's never easy to kill something that was simply following its nature," she says gently to Ben. "But she would have tried and tried to kill us, Ben. She would have killed everyone with us and killed anyone else she came across in the tunnels or one the surface. It's the fault of the people who bred her. Now these people," and she gestures at the Enclave bodies strewn about, "...these people deserve getting knocked out."

Which makes her blood boil in anger.

"You're welcome, Fawkes," she calls over her shoulder.
